"Clover" Slider

This has been WILDLY popular - I'm totally blown away to be honest.

I think we only made 8 of them because I was a bit unsure of how they would be received.

The prototype I showed in the last blog post was a little rough - but the final, refined Clover obviously struck a chord with people.

I'm making another run of 20 or so right now. Not sure when they will be ready - hopefully before the end of the week.

CNC Knifemaking

If you're not into knives, then skip this section. :-)

But, if you are into knives, you might like this. I've been working on a NEW and never-been-done-before (of course) locking mechanism for a knife. I'm calling it the "Magnus Lock" (again, of course! :-D).

We are getting ever-closer to a possible final prototype. I've made a short and simple video of where I'm at with the "Magnus Lock"...

SIDE-NOTE: Knives are not totally new to me. I have made and sold a friction-folder in the past. I have also made a micro-sized fixed-blade knife in the past. Not only that, but I've designed and made -- only prototype stage -- five (yes, FIVE) different flipper knives over the years. There is a weird reason I never took them further ...and I explain them on the www.MagnusKnives.com website.

P.S.If you want to join this journey at the VERY start -- as in, RIGHT NOW --  then I recommend you do two things:

The "Fancy" Slider (Finished At Last!)

It's finally here...

And it's called the "Mosaic" Turtle.

Why Mosaic?

Well, here's a definition of the word:
So, as you can probably guess...

Each"platelet" on the Turtle body is a separate piece (each one screwed in from inside). Yeah, I know, most things I do are fairly minimalist. That's my style.

But you know what else is my style?

Going in the absolute opposite direction (there is no middle-ground with me ...it's either one end of the spectrum or the absolute opposite end :-P).

The Mosaic Turtle is made up of:

2 x Plates
2 x Bodies
26 x "Platelets" (that's 13 on each side)
38 x Screws
The reason it took so long to get to this stage is because each of the 13 different platelets are each on a different angle ...so we have to use our "fancy pants" 5-axis CNC machine to make the body to hold the platelets.

Not only that but, we had to make all new CNC fixturing for the bodies of this sliders ...AND we had to make all new CNC fixturing for making the little platelets too!

Now, of course, the exciting part is the mixing and matching.

The one I personally want to make is:

-- Zirconium (Plates)
-- Zirconium (Body)
-- Meteorite (Center Platelet and Four Corners)
-- SuperConductor (Remaining Platelets)

...but so many combinations!

One last thing...

I'm probably going to get asked if people can buy separate platelets and modify their Mosaic Turtle.

Honestly, I'm hugely apprehensive of this, because of the likelihood of stripping threads. Most people know not to tighten these little 2-56 Titanium screws too much ...but, unfortunately, some people just crank them on and strip the threads. Unfortunately the blame (usually) gets put back on us.

So, yeah, I'm not sure if I'll offer that at this stage.

Yeah! Mosaic Turtle! I’ve got a obsessed ‘blue” daughter who’d LOVE this. How fo I order? I won’t crank down on screws, we promise.

Mark B Wiest,

Mosaic is very promising! Smart as you can choose precious material more carefully and from thinner pieces. Imagine you would make them tactile / whobbly some day… or a fidget concept … a body / worry stone covered with slightly moving precious plates

Joerg,

Mosaic looks incredible! Especially in what appears to be crystal titanium! Can’t wait to see more sliders in crystal titanium, including the mosaic!!
