It's from the whacky world of knifemaking. It's an inlay for a No-Ring Slider - so it's for aesthetics. But the material is usually reserved for knife blades.

The "bubble" pattern is throughout the steel itself. Dragonskin is definitely a rock-solid name for this.

It is my hope to make a full slider out of this material (not just an inlay) - my only apprehensive is that it's magnetic ...so might affect the magnets.
