Vintage Micarta
As I mentioned in the last blog post...
Some Vintage Micarta has arrived. They said it was from the USSR. Now, honestly, I'm not sure how you check that - but it's definitely vintage and it's definitely amazing to look at:
Some sliders made from this will be coming very soon. Not sure when/if I'll ever get anything like this again - so price will be a bit higher that ordinary Micarta.
Is This My #1 Fidget?
I showed you some behind-the-scenes on the making of the Mini-Atom in the last blog post.
As of this morning it is fully finished. I had high hopes ...and they have been surpassed.
I had to spend a bit of time getting the magnet combination just right (which then meant I had to re-design/machine the Mini-Atom to fit this magnet setup.
The result is pretty much a replica of the original Atom - but smaller. Still has a nice "fluid" feel to it:
Robotic Polishing
Here's a quick look at the system we use to surface finish (polish) the Atoms.
I have shown it here and there over the year - but I like (rather arrogantly perhaps) think it's really cool ...because we design and build it ourself from scratch. Not only that, but the result are parts that come off with a better finish than we could get any other way. :-)
Oh, and it can run unattended through the night (yes, even more arrogance and self-congratulation right there!).
